
This Rustic Mountain Cabin Is Filled With Eclectic Antiques

Get heed, mountain-dwelling motorists, when Kay Stanley is driving the wheel, she will brake for antiques. “If I see a signal for an antiques keep, I pull ideal in excess of!” claims the avid treasure hunter and Spartina 449 lifestyle manufacturer founder. So when Kay set out to build a retreat in Highlands, North Carolina, she normally stuffed it with timeworn finds—but she didn’t stop there.
For the reason that the 1880 dwelling that initially sat on Kay’s five acres couldn’t be saved, she preferred to spend homage to the outdated homestead and other historic constructions in the place the ideal way she could—by developing the home nearly entirely from wood that experienced been salvaged from an outdated mill and a number of barns. “The intention was to convey again to everyday living the way the house could have looked in 1880,” she says. “We needed to embrace the feel of this quaint historic mountain town.”
The “we” in this situation contains architect Stan Dixon, builder Craig Carver, and decorator Carole Weaks. Although Stan analyzed the architecture of the region’s century-old log cabins and Craig searched for rustic reclaimed wood for the within and out, Carole served Kay come across present day textiles and new upholstered furnishings that would pair perfectly with her eclectic combine of antiques. Now Kay is delighted to share the dreamy location with company who happily sign up for her and her doggy, Boo, on the back porch. The cocktail of alternative? Outdated-fashioneds, of course.
