Low-cost Japanese airline, Zipair will soon launch some of the cheapest long-haul flights between the U.S. and Japan. Earlier this month, the budget airline announced it would be offering flights between Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on June 2.
According to The Points Guy, the official news release from Zipair detailed the flights will be affordable and convenient.
“Flights between Tokyo and San Francisco will operate five times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with fares starting at an astonishingly low 35,000 yen or $352,” notes The Points Guy.
The Tokyo-based carrier also added bargain fares for children six years and under. Those tickets are 10,000 Japanese yen or $91, but are only available when purchasing tickets from Japan.
Zipair President Shingo Nishida hopes the new flight path will strengthen its ties to the U.S.
“Through our relationship with SFO, we are confident this service will provide a valuable link for commercial and cultural exchange for our mutual customers,” he stated in the news release.
The addition of the new discounted flights is the airline’s third flight route across the Pacific. Business Insider reports Zipar has several routes between Tokyo and six cities, including Los Angeles, San Jose, Honolulu, Bangkok, Seoul, and Singapore.
Zipair also offers business-class lie-flat seat tickets. Passengers with these tickets often have to pay for add-ons, including seat selection and checked baggage. They can also purchase in-flight meals. Perks can be added individually or as a bundle. Even with add-ons, the flights are noted as some of the cheapest for trips to Japan.
Founded in 2018, Zipair is a subsidiary of Japan Airlines. Along with its U.S. destinations, Zipair also has routes to Seoul, South Korea; Bangkok; and Singapore.
During the pandemic, the discount airline halted its passenger flights and carried on with only cargo flights between Tokyo and Bangkok.
In October 2020, Zipair relaunched its passenger-carrying flights with a flight to Honolulu in December. Since then, they have added seven cities from its Tokyo hub and have been ranked as one of the world’s top ten best long-haul low-cost airlines.
